The high-stakes world of art auctions just got a lot deadlier. The premiere of tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama, Siren's Kiss, hit the ground running with a mix of high-fashion glamour and bone-chilling mystery. From the moment Han Seol-ah ruthlessly destroyed a multi-million dollar painting to the shocking arrival of insurance investigator Cha Woo-seok, Episode 1 set the stage for an epic battle of wits.
If you love a thriller where the "villain" might be the one you're rooting for, this is your new obsession. Let’s break down the chaos of the first hour.
The drama opens at Royal Auction, the most prestigious auction house in the country. Just moments before the big event, Chief Auctioneer Han Seol-ah (played by the stunning Park Min-young) senses something wrong with a piece on display. While everyone else sees a masterpiece, she sees a lie.
Without a second of hesitation, she pulls out a blade and shreds the expensive artwork right in front of the board members! Her rival, Kim Yoon-ji, is horrified, but Seol-ah’s response is ice-cold: "If you knew it was a fake and put it up, it's a crime. If you didn't know, you're incompetent." This scene perfectly established Seol-ah as a brilliant, uncompromising perfectionist who rules her world with an iron fist.
Once the drama settled, the real auction began. Seol-ah took the stage in a breathtaking emerald green dress, commanding the room with pure charisma. The star of the night was Choi Jeong-su’s "Universe," which saw a fierce bidding war.
A mysterious wealthy investor named Baek Jun-beom eventually snagged the piece for a staggering 5.3 billion won ($4 million+). But it was their encounter in the hallway that really piqued my interest. Seol-ah tells him she "never forgets a face," while Jun-beom looks intrigued by her sharpness. Are they past lovers, or something more dangerous?
The glamour ended abruptly that night. A terrified Kim Yoon-ji is seen fleeing down an emergency staircase, frantically calling insurance investigator Cha Woo-seok (played by Wi Ha-joon). She promises to blow the lid on a massive insurance fraud and murder plot within Royal Auction.
But before she can say more, a scream echoes through the phone. In a gruesome twist, Yoon-ji falls through the glass ceiling of the lobby and lands right on top of Woo-seok’s car. While it looks like a suicide or accident, the autopsy reveals petechiae on her neck, suggesting she was strangled before she fell. The hunt for a killer has officially begun.
Woo-seok isn't just any investigator; he’s a bloodhound. While digging through Yoon-ji’s leads, he discovers a shocking connection to Seol-ah. It turns out Seol-ah’s former fiancé, Yoon Seung-jae, died in a yacht accident, and a massive life insurance policy was canceled just before his death.
The kicker? A 200 million won refund somehow found its way to Seol-ah. Woo-seok confronts her at the auction house, bluntly asking if she’s trading human lives for cash. Seol-ah simply responds with a chilling, elegant smile, effectively declaring war. The tension between Park Min-young and Wi Ha-joon is already electric, and I can’t wait to see who breaks first.
